New Year, New City

Wow, its been a while. Well, my first duty station has officially changed. Pending final orders, I will now be going to Navy Band NORTHEAST in Newport, RI. I was surprised at first, thinking a west coast assignment would be offered. But after talking to some senior people and getting others' opinions, I'm getting pretty excited about it.




The map on the left is of Rhode Island. Newport is only 142 miles from family in Stamford, CT. Sailing is big there, so with my arrival in April I hope to get involved by the summer season. The band serves the Navy War College community and covers all the Northeast, including gigs in NYC!

I've never lived in New England. Most if my friends here are going to pacific rim locations or Italy, so I'll just have to make new ones. That's alright. Band's website: http://www.cnic.navy.mil/newport/navyband

Wow Jenny! This is definitely a surprise but it sounds like you're very flexible and positive about the change of duty station. I can totally see you fitting in to the your new future home. And for selfish reasons, it's nice knowing you'll only be 3 time zones away :). Thanks for the update. I miss you!
